Synergetic Play Therapy

Synergetic Play Therapy® honors both the therapeutic powers of play, the science that governs relationship, and the development.

Synergetic Play Therapy

“Synergetic Play Therapy® honors both the therapeutic powers of play, the science that governs relationship, and the development of the therapist, recognizing that it is ultimately the interplay between these three systems that support deep transformation for both therapist and child”
“Synergetic Play Therapy® (SPT) was developed by Lisa Dion in 2008 and born from the realization that it was possible to regulate another person’s nervous system by first regulating your own. Since then the fields of Neuroscience and Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) have provided the science and research to confirm the profound healing that occurs when therapists are able to attune to themselves and co-regulate through the dys-regulation that arises in the child’s play allowing the child to move towards their challenging thoughts, feelings and body sensations. It is in this deeply resonate state that a synergy emerges allowing the child to heal and re-pattern their nervous system”

Synergetic Play Therapy®

When working with children, Mili employs play therapy—an approach that naturally allows them to communicate and connect with their internal world. Through play, children feel safe and in control, projecting their thoughts and emotions onto toys and the therapist, helping them make sense of their experiences.
In addition to working with children, Mili actively involves parents in the therapeutic process. She holds a systemic perspective that integrates Synergetic Play Therapy, Family Constellation, EMDR-Sand-tray and Gestalt approaches. Each family requires different modalities. There are times when she offers individual play therapy to the child, followed by parent coaching, and then family sessions. The approach depends on what is happening within the system and how open parents are to working in this manner.
Play therapy sessions last for 45 minutes. Typically, Mili conducts a 1-hour intake meeting with parents. If they determine that play therapy is the appropriate course for the family, she then offers four play therapy sessions with the child, followed by an individual session with the parents. They often continue working together beyond these initial four sessions, maintaining the same frequency. Mili sees the child for four sessions followed by a session with the parents until it becomes necessary to adjust their approach or until the treatment is completed.
